Mixed Use : North West

The buildings on the north side of North Road at the west end, from Station Bank to Castle Chare, are ripe for redevelopment, particularly the more recent buildings which are of poor quality.

These should be demolished to create a site for mixed use development, providing a new flagship at the western gateway to the City centre and a new “anchor” use at the western end of the shopping streets in the City centre, a means to revitalise North Road.

This site should provide the following components:
•    Up to 2700 sqm of retail development with frontage to North Road and potentially to Castle Chare
•    Potential for car parking above ground floor level with access from Tenter Terrace/Castle Chare, up to 55 spaces on a single level
•    Potential for residential accommodation above ground floor retail use fronting Castle Care and North Road, up to 2000 sqm (27 units)
