Permission
Permission should always be sought from the land owner by the event organiser. This may involve a fee or could be offered as in kind support for your event (no harm in asking!)
If you event is a public/council owned site then you should contact the Vision Events Team to find out if you will need to get permission to hold your event on the site you choose. It is recommended that you apply at least 3 months in advance, as a decision cannot always be given immediately.
It is also the responsibility of the Event Organiser to notify the Police, Ambulance and Fire services, as well as the Department for Environmental Health for all events. The most effective way of doing this is to get in touch with the Durham Safety Advisory Group For large events, Traffic Management will be essential and road closures may be necessary.
Licensing
Food and Beverages/Alcohol, Music, Film, Singing, Dancing and Sporting Events
With the implementation of the Licensing Act 2003 if you offer music, dancing, late night refreshment or alcohol you will need to contact Durham City Council Licensing Section for further advice. Please be aware that a fee may be charged for a Licence.
Council Branding
If you have received support in kind or sponsorship from Durham City Council, please get in touch with either Kate or Suzy on the Vision Events Team for more information about how to acknowledge this support in your press release, on any printed material or websites.
