Events that are well organised are great fun and encourage audiences and visitors to come back for more. Well planned events maximise the potential of any event, large or small, while badly organised events will be remembered by many but for all the wrong reasons. The more we can do to ensure the highest quality events the more the audience, the event organiser and the City of Durham will benefit.
Organising an event can seem like a daunting task. However, with proper planning and accessing the support and advice that is available throughout this toolkit, it need not be a difficult or frightening process.
The Vision Events Team can offer expert advice and guidance towards most types of event, and is always a useful first point of contact whatever scale of event you are planning. We can also advise you of other planned events that may affect your choice of venue, date and target audience.
As an event organiser, you are responsible for ensuring that your event is both safe and legal. If you are thinking of holding an event, the information detailed in this guide, whilst not exhaustive, highlights some of the opportunities, risks and areas you need to think about.
It is important to point out that you may not need to consider everything mentioned here - it will depend on the event. There also maybe additional areas, not mentioned here, which you will need to consider. This document is intended purely as a guide.
Good luck!
